OAKLAND (KRON) – The Golden State Warriors unveiled their first-ever Chinese New Year uniforms to favorable reviews on Monday.
The team first put the colorful uniforms on display at the Betty Ong Rec Center in San Francisco today with Warriors forwards Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green. The Warriors then Tweeted out several images showing some of the details in the new uniforms.
“We have been working with the NBA for two years now on our Chinese New Year uniforms to recognize the tremendous fan base that our Asian community represents,” said Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts. “Connecting with our Asian community is a priority for our organization and we are proud that we are going to be one of two teams in the NBA to debut a Chinese New Year themed uniform as a way to thank our fans here in the Bay Area and abroad in China.”
The Warriors Chinese New Year uniforms, created by Adidas, feature Slate as its primary color, and red and yellow throughout the jersey and shorts representing Chinese heritage. The front of the uniform reads “Warriors” in Chinese and features the year of the animal that appears in the Chinese calendar on the sleeve and the waistline of the shorts, this year featuring the year of the goat.
In addition to the Warriors, the Houston Rockets also announced their Chinese New Year uniforms today, making the Warriors and the Rockets the first two teams in the NBA to debut a Chinese New Year uniform.
The Warriors will debut the new uniforms on Feb. 20 when the team plays the San Antonio Spurs at Oracle Arena to tip off Chinese New Year, which begins Thursday, Feb. 19. The team will wear the Chinese New Year uniforms again on the road Feb. 24 at Washington and Monday, Mar. 2 at Brooklyn.
To conclude the 2015 Chinese New Year, the team will wear the Chinese New Year uniforms for the final time on Mar. 4 when the team holds their official Chinese New Year Celebration at Oracle Arena when they face the Milwaukee Bucks. The celebration will feature special Chinese New Year themed pre-game, halftime and time-out break performances in addition to having the Warriors Dance Team and Warriors Hoop Troop outfitted in Chinese New Year merchandise.
The Swingman jerseys are available for purchase at the team’s web store. The Chinese New Year jerseys and additional merchandise will also be available for purchase in China later this season.
