PUEBLO, Colo. (AP/KRON) — A former Walsenburg police officer who helped her ex-husband hide heroin and cash from investigators has been sentenced to five years in prison.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports 32-year-old Gloria Suazo was sentenced in federal court in Denver on Friday. She apologized for embarrassing the Walsenburg Police Department and law enforcement in general.
Suazo acknowledged helping 33-year-old Jeromy Suazo hide the drugs and cash from police two days after he was jailed in Pueblo on drug charges. Jeromy Suazo was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
On Oct. 29, Judge Raymond Moore had told Suazo he was releasing her on bail after she pleaded guilty to a heroin charge partly to spare her child who was sitting in court.
The next night, Pueblo police reportedly arrested her in a trailer park for allegedly selling crack cocaine out of a truck with her two kids in the car.
She has not been convicted in the cocaine case, which is ongoing.
