SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — If you’re thinking about buying a diamond this Valentine’s Day, there’s a new trend you should know about that offers too many good reasons not pass up.
Synthetic diamonds, or lab grown diamonds, are growing in popularity because they’re a lot cheaper and there’s no conflict diamond concerns.
These cultivated gems have the same chemical properties as those created by geological process, and are indistinguishable to the naked eye and under a microscope.
KRON 4’s Gabe Slate talked with a certified gemologist who says that synthetic gemstones are the optically, chemically, and physically the same thing as mined diamonds.
The lab grown bling generally cost about half the price of natural diamonds and are available in yellow, blue, and colorless or white.
