Man Arrested After Police Dog Smells Drugs During Traffic Stop

SCOTTS VALLEY (KRON) — A man who was pulled over for having broken headlights was arrested after a police K-9 detected drugs in the car.

At about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, officers stopped a vehicle with inoperable headlights near a Bank of America branch in Scotts Valley. During the stop, the police dog smelled the exterior of the vehicle and alerted officers to the possible presence of a narcotic odor, according to police.

A search of the vehicle turned up evidence associated with the alleged sale of marijuana and prescription medication.

Police arrested 20-year-old William Eugene Weist on suspicion of the drug possession offenses.
