SAN MATEO (KRON) — A San Leandro store owner is celebrating Thursday after one of his regular customers turned up with one of California’s three winning tickets in last night’s Powerball drawing.
Pop Top Market and Liquor owner Aman says he knows the winner but doesn’t know his name. The man’s ticket matched five numbers but missed winning a share of the jackpot by one ball, the Powerball.
On Thursday afternoon, Aman was taking pictures with the winner’s check and posting banners that read, “Millionaire Made Here.”
Aman’s store sold one of the three 2nd place tickets sold in California. The other two were sold in Mono County and Orange County.
“That has resulted in three new millionaires in California! That’s because each of these 2nd place tickets won an impressive $1.4 million apiece,” lottery officials said.
There were also three jackpot winners in last night’s drawing. Winners were drawn in North Carolina, Puerto Rico, and Texas. The three Powerball winners will split the $564 million prize.
Sales of Powerball tickets soared in advance of Wednesday night’s $500 million Powerball drawing, the fifth largest lottery prize in U.S. history.
