TRAFFIC ALERT: The Highway 880 High Street off-ramp has reopened.
OAKLAND — Firefighters extinguished this morning’s three-alarm fire that broke out in a one-story commercial warehouse in Oakland.
Fire crews responded to a report of a fire in the 4200 block of East 12th Street at approximately 6:50 a.m., according to fire officials. The first crew arrived to the scene and found the warehouse was fully involved in flames that were shooting through the roof, Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Lisa Baker said. The blaze was difficult to battle because there was a large amount
of wood inside and the building was compartmentalized, she added.
Once the blaze was under control shortly before 8 a.m., crews continued to look for hot spots to prevent additional fires.
While the fire does not appear suspicious at this time, according to Baker, the cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $500,000.
The Highway 880 High Street off-ramp had been closed due to this morning’s fire, but has since been reopened by the California Highway Patrol.
