SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The suspicious package at San Francisco’s Hall of Justice has been cleared and the evacuation lifted.
Part of San Francisco’s Hall of Justice was under an evacuation order because of suspicious packages found in the mail room.
The evacuation at 850 Bryant Street started around 10 a.m. and ended just after 11:30 a.m.
Only the wing closest to Seventh Street was been evacuated.
Mark Szabo, a spokesperson for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office took to Twitter, posting “HOJ evacuated due to suspicious package. #BombSquad on the scene.”
The San Francisco Police bomb squad and canine units responded to the Hall of Justice.
Officer Albie Esparza said that the packages did not appear to be explosive, but that they were taking precautions.
Deputy Chief Lyn Tomioka saw the packages.
She said there were three or four brown paper packages addressed to the Police Department, but no person specifically.
The packages are different sizes and appear to have come from Southern California.
The largest of the packages is about the size of a football.
The Hall of Justice contains the headquarters of the Police
Department, the district attorney’s office and the medical examiner’s office,
as well as criminal courtrooms, two county jails and other offices.
