Injuries are Life-Threatening to Man Punched In The Head In Washington Square Park

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A man who was punched in the head in San Francisco’s Washington Square Park Thursday night remains in critical condition, according to police.

The fight occured at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Union Street according to SFPD spokesperson Albie Esparza.

Emergency crews determined the trauma was the result of a punch, but the suspect fled before being identified by police.

Esparza said the victim had been drinking in the park with a small group of friends when a verbal altercation began and the suspect, described as a man in his mid 20s, punched the victim in the head, knocking him out.

The victim was knocked out for a few minutes, and was later transported to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that are now being called life-threatening.  The extent of his injuries are a fractured skull and internal bleeding.

It is unclear whether the victim knew his assailant and according to police, witnesses have not been cooperating with the investigation.
