SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Former USC star running back and San Diego native Reggie Bush is headed back to the West Coast.
A message posted Saturday morning on Bush’s verified Twitter account all but confirms multiple reports that he has reached an agreement with the San Francisco 49ers. ESPN’s NFL insider Ian Rapoport first reported the deal.
The team has not responded to KRON 4’s emails about the signing or issued an official announcement.
The news comes days after veteran running back and beloved player Frank Gore left the Niners to join the Indianapolis Colts. Bush will share offensive backfield duties with second-year running back Carlos Hyde.
The 30-year-old was cut by the Lions last season despite putting up career numbers in 2013 — he posted 1,006 rushing yards. His catching ability — 506 yards receiving in 2013 — will give Colin Kaepernick a new target out of the backfield.
Bush came into the league with New Orleans Saints the team’s #2 pick of the 1st round in the 2006 NFL Draft. He also played two seasons in Miami and then spent the last two in Detroit.
