OAKLAND (KRON) — The Golden State Warriors have clinched their third straight NBA playoff Monday night, and they didn’t even have to finish their game against the Los Angeles Lakers in Oakland.
The Dubs secured a spot in the post season after the Dallas Mavericks defeated the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder, 119-115.
This is the first time the team has appeared in the playoffs in three straight seasons since 1975, 1976, and 1977.
While getting into the playoffs for the third straight year in decades is a major milestone for the franchise, the Warriors are in a strong position to earn the top seed. The magic number is 11, any combination of Warriors (52-13) wins or Memphis Grizzlies (47-20) losses to add up to 11. The Grizzlies beat the Denver Nuggets on Monday, 92-81.
The team is in town Monday to face the Lakers and were leading 48-41 at the time of this report. The team has 16 games left in the season after tonight’s game against the Lakers.
