(KRON) — A man was arrested Tuesday after leading California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase through several Bay Area counties.
The pursuit started on I-80 near Vacaville at around 2 p.m. when a CHP officer attempted to stop a gold Nissan Pathfinder for speeding. The officer ran plates on the SUV but the plates came back clean. The driver, unaware that officers had run a check on the vehicle, sped away.
The case lasted over an hour, and came to a dramatic end in San Jose on Interstate 280 near the Magdalena Avenue exit. The driver, Ramon Bernal, 24, of Davis, crashed and rolled his SUV.
Bernal walked away from the wrecked SUV and was taken into custody. He was later transported to Stanford Medical Center for evaluation and medical clearance. He had a few minor injuries and cuts, but largely was unharmed.
According to police, officers did a field sobriety test and ruled out alcohol. They are say he was under influence of drugs
Bernal will face charges of felony evasion of a peace officer and driving under the influence of drugs.
