BERKELEY (KRON) — A San Francisco father talks about the injuries his family suffered after a man caused a crash and then fled the scene.
KRON first broadcasted cell phone video of the accident after it happened on Wednesday. Dusan Semin, his wife and three children were traveling on I-80 when an SUV slammed into their car.
The video is frightening to watch, but for Semin, it’s much more disturbing.
“I don’t understand how anyone can leave a family like that,” said Semin. “Not only did he leave his responsibility to his people, but left mine there to die, too.”
Semin’s daughters were in the back seat when the unidentified driver crashed into the family’s blue Honda on Wednesday afternoon. The impact left the rear of Semin’s car a mangled mess.
His 4-year-old daughter remains hospitalized with several injuries including a concussion and “a lot of bruising a lot of swelling, she’s very lethargic, that has them a little worried.” His two other daughters suffered minor injuries in the crash, his wife who was driving was also hurt
Semin, who was a paramedic in the East Bay for 10 years, says he has worked vehicles accident scenes with less damage that resulted in fatalities.
“Analyzing this as a dad and husband, it’s amazing that God blessed my family the way he did,” he said.
The California Highway Patrol continues to search for the hit-and-run driver. They have leads in the case but have not made an arrest.
“They need to get him off the street,” said Semin.
