DURHAM,N.C. (KRON) — School officials at Duke University are investigating after a noose was found hanging from a tree at the Bryan Center Plaza Wednesday.
The noose, which was made out of yellow rope was removed around 2:45 a.m. according to the Duke Chronicle.
Vice President for Student Affairs Larry Moneta released a statement saying “To whomever committed this hateful and stupid act, I just want to say that, if your intent was to create fear, it will have the opposite effect,” Moneta wrote. “In time, each of these cowardly acts of bias and hatred will strengthen our resolve to love and support each other.”
Authorities are searching for the individual or individuals responsible, Moneta said.
