LOS ANGELES (KRON) — Two adults were rescued and two children had to pulled from a submerged car that plunged into the Los Angeles harbor in San Pedro on Thursday evening.
The two adults managed to get out of the water on their own, according to fire officials.
Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey says the car left a parking lot and drove off a road in the Ports of Call area in San Pedro at around 6:10 p.m. It went into the down in 30 feet of water and was found overturned.
First responders found two adults swimming in the water, Humphrey said.
Rescue divers pulled the two children who were believed to be trapped in the vehicle, he said. The children were said to be in critical condition when they were brought out of the harbor.
Humphrey says it’s not clear whether the car lost control and went it into the water or if it was driven over the parking lot on purpose.
