SAN LEANDRO (KRON) – The owner of an Ace Hardware store and his teenage daughter were held at gunpoint Monday morning according to the San Leandro Police Department.
At 11:55 a.m., a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses came into the store and pointed a small handgun into the owner’s back, demanding the cash register be opened.
The owner cooperated out of fear for him and his daughter’s lives.
The man stole a small amount of cash from the drawer and fled on foot. Police say he was last seen running on Arbor Avenue towards Oakes Boulevard. They believe he fled in a get-away car that was parked on Oakes Boulevard.
Lt. Robert McManus of the San Leandro Police Department says, “Any time a weapon, especially a firearm, is involved in a crime, we want to apprehend the suspect as soon as possible. Its suspects like this that harm innocent victims.”
He added, “If you live in the area and have a video recording system, please check it, as it may contain images needed to identify the suspect.”
Police described the suspect as an African-American male in his 30’s, about 6′ tall, weighing about 200 pounds.
