Sheriff’s Office: Woman Died While in Custody at Richmond Detention Facility

RICHMOND (KRON)- A woman in custody at a Contra Costa County detention facility in Richmond died this afternoon.

Medical staff were at Building 4 at the West County Detention Facility around noon Saturday to treat several female inmates.

According to a sheriffs spokesman, while speaking to one of them, a 51-year-old woman became unresponsive.

Staff started life saving procedures and called for an ambulance.

The Antioch resident was pronounced deceased at the detention facility.

The death will be investigated by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office and the sheriff’s office.
