Machete-wielding man arrested for burglary in Rohnert Park

ROHNERT PARK (KRON) — A Rohnert Park man was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of breaking and entering a neighbor’s residence and threatening the occupants with a machete, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officials said.

Israel Gonzalez, 37, was arrested after a burglary reported around 9:45 p.m. at 124 Rancho Verde Circle, Cmdr. Pat Strouse said.

Gonzalez broke a sliding glass window and began swinging the machete at the residents, at one point holding the machete to his own neck, Strouse said.

The residents fled the home and called police, who promptly set up a perimeter and tried to make contact with Gonzalez inside.

Negotiators arrived on the scene and eventually got Gonzalez out of the house.

When Gonzalez finally exited the home, had two large lacerations on each side of his neck and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, according to Strouse.

Gonzalez was arrested and will be booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and burglary, Strouse said.
