Mormon temple in Los Angeles goes brown to help with drought

LOS ANGELES (KRON) — California’s first Mormon temple is doing its part to help with the state’s massive drought, letting its iconic lawn go brown.

The Los Angeles Times reports that church officials couldn’t be reached for comment, but they were able to talk to a security guard, Jarom Ellsworth.

Ellsworth says that gardeners stopped watering the grass about a month ago to save water.

The temped in in Los Angeles’ West Side, one of several affluent California communities to get water use flack after a recent study out of the University of California, Los Angles revealed that poorer communities used about three times less water than their wealthier counterparts.
