PALO ALTO (KRON) — A group of burglars drove a stolen SUV through the Bloomingdale’s store front window at the Stanford Shopping Center and stole a large amount of jewelry early Wednesday morning, according to Palo Alto police.
The thieves broke through the window around 4:03 a.m. triggering the alarm in the store. 24-hour dispatch sent police to the scene located at 180 El Camino Real where they discovered the front windows completely demolished.
Several glass jewelry cases were also smashed and their contents gone, according to police.
Surveillance footage shows a red SUV drive in reverse through the storefront. Three suspects wearing black hooded sweatshirts got out of the car and began smashing the jewelry cases. The entire robbery lasted about two minutes before the suspect got back into the SUV and fled.
According to the police report, the car’s licence plate matches that of a 1989 red Jeep Cherokee that was reported stolen on May 12th from the 2200 block of Birch Street.
At this point police cannot determine the exact dollar amount lost in the burglary, but detectives are actively investigating.
