Police release video showing burglars smashing through Bloomingdale’s window

PALO ALTO (KRON) — Police have released surveillance video showing an SUV crashing through glass doors of a department store in Palo Alto and thieves smashing display cases during an overnight jewelry heist.

The thieves broke through the window around 4:03 a.m. of the Bloomingdale’s at 180 El Camino Real. The crash triggered the alarm in the store and a 24-hour dispatch sent police to the scene where they discovered the front windows completely demolished.

Police located the SUV at 9:44 a.m. in the 200 block of Palo Alto Avenue here in Palo Alto.  It was unoccupied.  Detectives will be processing the car for evidence.

According to the police report, the car’s licence plate matches that of a 1989 red Jeep Cherokee that was reported stolen on May 12th from the 2200 block of Birch Street.

At this point police cannot determine the exact dollar amount lost in the burglary, but detectives are actively investigating.
