VALLEJO (KRON) — Vallejo police on Friday announced that they have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a Jesse M. Bethel High School student.

The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Zachery Kroll.

“Vallejo Police Detectives worked through the evening tracking down and verifying any all leads connected to this homicide,” police said.

Max Rusk, a sophomore at the Bethel high school, was found shot to death on a trail near the campus.

The campus, located on the 2000 block of Ascot Parkway, was placed on a temporary lock down as police searched for the gunman, according to campus officials. The lock down was lifted shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Emergency Medical crews to the scene at 11:57 a.m. but Rusk succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene, police said.

Rusk’s family said that he died of injuries sustained from a single gunshot wound.

“The Vallejo Police Department would like to reassure members of the public that this tragic event does not appear to be a random act of violence and it appears that the victim and Mr. Kroll are known to each other,” police said.

Police have not said what might have led to the shooting.
