OAKLAND (KRON) — KRON 4 has obtained new information from BART on which stations are the worst when it comes to property crime.
With signs everywhere, BART makes it very clear that people shouldn’t leave their valuables in plain view, but even so many BART stations are hot targets for thieves.
Nearly 900 bicycles were stolen from BART riders in 2014. In 2015, the thieves are striking an average of every 14 hours.
Drivers who leave their cars in BART parking lots are burglarized every 15 hours.
So which stations are the worst when it comes to property crime? Mainly the stations along the Fremont line.
Fruitvale station leads the pack, with 23 auto break-ins from January until April 23. Next up, the Coliseum followed by South Hayward.
On the other side of the bay, Daly City has had 23 auto burglaries in 2015.
North Berkeley tops the list as the most dangerous place to leave your bike. 71 were stolen there in 2014, and through the middle of April this year, another 14 had been stolen.
Ashby follows North Berkeley, tailed by the MacArthur station with Dublin-Pleasanton not far behind.
Fremont caps out the top five when it comes to bike burglaries.
