SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A spokesperson for Harris Ranch says that the foreign objects discovered in beef that was purchased at a Bay Area grocery store was simply rock salt and not glass.
An Oakley couple claimed that they found glass shards in a 5-lb package of ground beef they purchased at a Grocery Outlet.
“Recently we removed all Harris Ranch 5-pound fresh ground beef packages to back-room refrigeration cases while we investigated a claim that glass had been found in a package,” said Grocery Outlet VP Melissa Porter.
Porter said that there were two separate labs to test the so called “glass” and found it to be salt crystals.
“We are 100% confident in the quality and safety of Harris Ranch products and are proud to offer this great ground beef for our customer’s Memorial Day barbeques and picnics,” said Porter.
Harris Ranch said it believes the Grocery Outlet customers mixed in some kind of seasoning in the ground beef and mistook the salt for glass.
