Blown transformer causes power outages for hundreds in Los Altos

LOS ALTOS (KRON) — Power has been restored to almost 600 customers who were without power in Los Altos on Tuesday morning.

About 595 customers lost power when a transformer blew around 8:23 a.m.

The PG&E transformer failed in downtown Los Altos on Plaza Central between First and Second streets, police said.

Los Altos police and Santa Clara County firefighters responded and awaited the arrival of PG&E crews to fix the transformer, police said.

PG&E officials were not immediately available to provide more details about the outage, but the utility’s website listed an outage affecting customers in the downtown Los Altos area.
