LOS ANGELES (AP) – A Los Angeles man has been charged with killing his wife and their baby.
Twenty-six-year-old Algernon Rieux was charged Tuesday in the deaths of 25-year-old Jacqueline Montoya and the couple’s 2-month-old baby, Joshua Eli-King Rieux.
A public defender set to appear on Rieux’s behalf Tuesday didn’t immediately return a call for comment on the charges.
Lt. David Coleman, a homicide investigator at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, says Rieux’s mother found Montoya and the baby dead inside their Los Angeles apartment Thursday. He says Rieux also was there but fled when his mother arrived. Rieux was arrested the following day.
Coleman declined to say how Montoya and the baby were killed or discuss the motive.
Prosecutors say they haven’t decided whether to seek the death penalty.
