OAKLAND (KRON) — Investigators are looking into whether the father of a 4-year-old girl who was shot in East Oakland on Tuesday provoked the shooting.
The father and another man were arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after arriving at the hospital to check on the girl, Oakland police Officer Frank Bonifacio said.
Jail records identify the men as Marcel Powell, 21, and Julius Miller, 22.
According to witnesses, the men had been driving around on International Boulevard throughout the afternoon, targeting people and cars with their paintball gun.
Police are investigating whether the men’s actions provoked the shooting that sent the little girl to the hospital. The girl is expected to survive her injuries.
Officers say they found a paintball gun next to the car, which crashed after the shooting.
The gunman who injured the child is still at large.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Oakland police at (510) 238-3326.
