SAN RAFAEL — San Rafael police are warning residents about a phone scam that asks residents to contribute money to the San Rafael Library.
The library was contacted by two concerned citizens who received calls soliciting money, Lt. Raffaello Pata said.
A male caller said the library is at risk of closing and needs money to remain open, Pata said.
The caller then asks for credit card numbers, is not able to provide details about the fundraiser and tries to keep the phone calls brief, Pata said.
The two residents did not fall for the scam.
Police said the San Rafael Library does not have a fundraising campaign and the library would not call people at home asking for money.
