FAIRFIELD (KRON) — In Fairfield, a community was bracing for the release of a high risk sex offender in a rural section of town.
KRON 4 has learned a meeting to discuss the placement of the convicted rapist was suddenly canceled, and residents said they are happy. Fraisure Smith, who was convicted of sexual battery of a 17-year-old and other sex offenses, is considered a high risk sex offender by the state.
He was set to be relocated to this neighborhood in Fairfield. But residents were outraged, and many put up signs. But now, right on the heels of a large community meeting with police and sheriffs officials, a healthcare organization that oversees Smith’s relocation has informed officials that placement on Olive Avenue in Fairfield is no longer an option.
