New version of Fastrak debuts in the Bay Area

BAY AREA (KRON) — The latest version of Fastrak, called “FastFlex” is making its debut in the Bay Area.

FastFlex allows drivers to indicate how many people are riding inside the vehicle.

The new system allows carpoolers to get a free ride and allows toll officials to catch cheaters more easily.

The latest transponder is not yet mandatory, but will be this fall on new express lanes on Interstate 5-80.

The technology will be integrated in the upcoming years in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano Counties.
