Palo Alto police arrest woman for downtown attempted armed robbery

PALO ALTO (KRON) — Palo Alto police have arrested a woman for trying to rob another woman of her cell phone with a knife.

It happened Tuesday afternoon at around 2:41 p.m., a police spokesman said. Police received a call from a woman in her 30s, who said she had been robbed downtown an hour earlier.

When police arrived, the victim told police she was walking east on University Avenue at Waverley Street when the suspect robbed her with a pocketknife. When she refused to give the suspect her cell phone, she told a man walking by she was being robbed, the woman said.

That’s when the man confronted the suspect and pushed her away, police said. The suspect then walked away.

Police reviewed surveillance video and identified the suspect as 20-year-old Yarissa Guadalupe Ramirez of Redwood City.

At around 6:30 p.m., Ramirez turned herself in to police. She was booked into Santa Clara County jail for attempted armed robbery.
