FAIRFIELD (BCN) — Fairfield police arrested a Richmond man Monday on suspicion of assaulting a woman and stealing her purse last month, a police sergeant said.
The 68-year-old woman was approached from behind around 7:50 p.m. June 11 in the 1300 block of Travis Boulevard in Fairfield, Sgt. Kevin Carella said.
The suspect struck her in the back of the head and ripped her purse from her hand when she fell to the ground, Carella said. The woman suffered injuries to her arms and a hand.
Evidence lead to the identity of Alonzo Terrell Washington, 27, of Richmond as one of the robbery suspects, Carella said.
Fairfield police detectives and Richmond police located Washington in an apartment in the 200 block of S. 7th Street in Richmond Monday and arrested him after a brief chase, Carella said.
Detectives found a loaded handgun in Washington’s pocket and Washington was returned to Fairfield and booked in Solano County Jail on suspicion of the robbery, Carella said.
Washington has an extensive criminal history in Solano, Contra Costa and Alameda counties, Carella said.
