SAN RAMON (BCN) — The Contra Costa County coroner’s office Thursday identified an 84-year-old woman who was struck and killed while crossing the street in San Ramon on Wednesday evening as Krishna Suri.

Suri, a San Ramon resident, died after a Chevrolet pickup truck struck her while she was walking in the crosswalk against the “Don’t Cross” signal across Dougherty Road at the intersection with Red Willow Road shortly before 9 p.m., according to San Ramon police Lt. Denton Carlson.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene. At least eight witnesses described seeing Suri walk out into the road against traffic, Carlson said.

The driver, a man in his 30s, remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation, Carlson said. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision, he said.

The multiple-lane road has a speed limit of 45 mph in the area, Carlson said.
