OAKLAND (KRON) – Police are asking for help identifying the driver and passenger involved in a deadly wreck that killed an 17-year-old boy outside an East Oakland funeral home.
Police say the single-car crash happened Monday night at 9:54 p.m. outside of Fouche’s Hudson Funeral Home on the 3600 block of Telegraph Avenue.
“Investigators have determined the Toyota Solara was traveling southbound in the number one lane of Telegraph Avenue at a high rate of speed. The vehicle transitioned to the number two lane and then drove onto the sidewalk, striking a palm tree and several parking meters before rolling over and coming to a stop at 3665 Telegraph Avenue,” police said.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver and several passengers leave the scene on foot.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located the teen in the rear passenger seat. Police say he was unresponsive and was pronounced deceased.
The name of the victim was not released by authorities, but relatives said he was to be a high school senior in the fall.
A pedestrian told police that she had been struck, either by the vehicle or flying debris. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, according to police.
Investigators are working to find the other people in the car at the time of the crash.
