GILROY (KRON) — KRON 4’s Will Tran was in Gilroy this morning for a preview of the South Bay’s biggest summer event, the Gilroy Garlic Festival. And they let him play with fire.
On Friday morning, Will joined the world-famous “Pyro Chefs” in their gigantic outdoor kitchen and put on his own garlic-laced calamari cooking demonstration in a segment he called, “Tran Can Cook!”
Garlic fans will find an assortment of tasty treats along the festival’s Gourmet Alley, including Festival Gilroy favorites garlic fries, garlic bread, and garlic ice cream.
The event kicks off Friday, July 24 and will through Sunday. The Festival will also have live entertainment on three stages featuring rock ‘n roll, country, jazz, blues, reggae, and swing. As always, there will be live cooking contests and demonstrations, arts and crafts, wine tasting, and a fun Children’s Area and Teen Zone.
On Saturday, amateur chefs from around the country will compete for the coveted garlic crown in the Great Garlic Cook-Off. Celebrity chef Daphne Oz from ABC-TV’s The Chew will be on hand to emcee the showdown on Sunday.
A new surprise was added this year, the first-ever Garlic Dream Wedding, where one lucky couple will be joined in a matrimony in a special garlic-themed ceremony on Sunday, July 26.
