SANTA CRUZ (KRON) — Happening Tuesday night in Santa Cruz, a community in mourning is coming together to remember 8-year-old Maddy Middleton.
She was found last night brutally murdered not far from where she lived, just a day after she was reported missing.
KRON 4’s J.R. Stone was live at the vigil that was about to begin in her honor.
And on Tuesday, a memorial has been growing for Maddy next to Apt. 4 at the Tannery Arts Center. People are leaving cards, flowers, stuffed animals, and candles to honor her memory.
Santa Cruz city schools have released a statement surrounding Middleton’s death.
On behalf of the schools, Superintendent Kris Munro said in a statement:
“We are stunned and deeply saddened in the wake of the tragic news about Maddy Middleton. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and loved ones. County mental health will provide counseling for students, families, and staff.”
