My KRON 4: Strangers step up to help boy, 2, in need of kidney transplant


SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A young boy in dire need of a kidney transplant received it, thanks to an outpouring of donor volunteers here in the Bay Area.

2-year-old Jordan was born two months premature and has had kidney problems ever since. As his kidneys got progressively worse his health began to fail.

“His immune system was getting weak, so he was getting sick faster and faster,” Jordan’s mother Vanessa said.

Doctors said he was in desperate need of a kidney transplant but first they’d have to find a donor.

His family put ads in publications and on Facebook. To try and find a donor, his family reached called out for help Facebook, put ads up in multiple publications, and UCSF Children’s Hospital San Francisco featured their story in a newsletter.

Within a week 12 people had come forward offering their kidneys. Jordan was a perfect match with the first person who came in.

He’s now in the hospital recovering from the surgery as his family sits at his bedside. This is his journey.

His family asks that you keep Jordan in your thoughts and prayers.

Today, the toddler is recovering while his fans stay glued to his status updates on Facebook.
