SANTA ROSA (KRON) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in west Santa Rosa.
At about 7:25 a.m., Santa Rosa police received a report of a shooting in the 2100 block of West Steele Lane.
Officers went to the scene and found a 27-year-old Santa Rosa man lying on a sidewalk near a condominium complex. The man had been shot several times, police said.
Despite life-saving efforts by local residents and medical response personnel, the man was declared dead at the scene.
Police say the victim was leaving his apartment and was walking out to his parked car along a nearby curb. As he approached his car, a man walked up to him and shot him with a hand gun. The shooter turned and fled west toward Apple Valley Lane.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20’s and having a dark complexion.
There is no known motive for the shooting, police said.
Police will not release the victim’s name will not be released at this time due to the nature of the investigation and notification of family members.
The Santa Rosa Police Department Violent Crimes Investigations Team is asking for the public’s help with any information.
Police remain on the scene and asking the public to avoid the area while they conducting their search.
