San Jose mourns the death of beloved hockey player

SAN JOSE (KRON) –  Hundreds gathered Tuesday night at Shark’s Ice in Fremont to mourn the death of a 19-year-old hockey player who was gunned down outside of a San Jose home.

Nearly 300 family and friends gathered at a rink-side vigil to remember Santa Clara Black Hawks player Chris Keil.

Keil was standing in front of a neighbor’s home when a vehicle with two occupants pulled up next to the home.  One of the occupants of the vehicle got out and opened fire on Keil.  The suspects then fled the scene.

Sandy Furtado, a family friend of Keil’s says his death is a “tremendous loss.”

According to the Santa Clara County Blackhawks’ website, “for 45 years, the Santa Clara Blackhawks have been a non-profit hockey club fielding competitive teams at the B, A, and Tier II (AA) levels.”
