Vietnam War veteran shot and killed in San Jose

San Jose (KRON) — Police have identified the victim who was shot and killed outside his home in San Jose as a 61-year-old Vietnam War veteran.

According to police, Danh Nguyen, was found lying near the entrance to the Woodbridge Mobile Home Park at 3051 Towers Lane when officers responded to reports of gunshots at 5:38 p.m. Friday. The victim was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Nguyen was walking on Lexann Avenue heading to his home in the park when one or more suspects approached him and opened fire.

Reporting witnesses said they saw a gray compact vehicle with multiple people driving away from the scene, police said. As of Wednesday afternoon police have stated the suspects are still at large.

The cause of the shooting is unknown and police have asked anyone with information to please contact the Department of homicide unit at 408-277-5283.

Nguyen served in the Republic of Vietnam Airborne Division Angels in Red Hats, an elite section of the South Vietnam army until the country fell to northern socialists in 1975, according to police.
