REDWOOD CITY (KRON) — Officers arrested Redwood City resident, Daniel Contreras on suspicion of killing a toddler in Redwood City, according to police.
According to officers they made the arrest at early Saturday morning at approximately at 12:30 am.
Medics and officers responded at about 2:30 pm Thursday to a report of a child not breathing in an apartment in the 400 block of Madison Avenue near Sequoia High School.
When medics arrived they found the child unconscious and unresponsive, according to police.
Medics started life-saving procedures and transported the toddler to Kaiser Permanente’s Redwood City Medical Center where the child died, according to police.
The toddler was in Contreras care and he told authorities the child fell accidentally from a table, police said.
The coroner performed at autopsy on the toddler Friday and determined the death was a homicide, according to police.
Officers booked Contreras into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of killing the toddler and felony child abuse, police said.
