Victim dies in senseless shooting

SALINAS (KRON)  — Friday night a man dies in a shooting in what may have been a confrontation with gang members, police said.

Officers said they believe the shooting took place approximately at 10  p.m. at 150 Sherwood Drive near the mobile home park.

Eliot Guererro, 22, died after he arrived at Natividad Medical Center, police said. Family members drove him there and hospital staff notified police when he arrived.

According to offices, one or more people shot him while he was in a vehicle with at least two other people.

Officers also said several gang members confronted Guererro and the other victims, and asked them what gang they belonged to.

The driver of the vehicle Guererro was in tried to drive away, but the suspect or suspects shot at them, hitting Guererro, police said.

At least one bullet just missed a juvenile sitting behind Guererro, according to police. The victims had no apparent ties to a gang, police said.
