OAKLAND (KRON) — Only on 4: BART is forced to recall tickets with a special message on the back after a week of problems at the fare gates.
The issue was causing passenger delays system-wide. The problems started to crop up as soon as new BART tickets were rolled out last Friday. Instead of the traditional blue back, the new tickets had a suicide prevention message on the other side along with a crisis center hotline.
BART ordered three million of them and put a half-million into circulation. But some of them didn’t work as they should.
People could enter the gates, but then were told to see an agent when they tried to exit. One man was given a voucher.
One BART station agent, who didn’t want to appear on camera, said it caused delays for those affected passengers.
