SACRAMENTO (KRON/BCN) — A 25-year-old Concord man drowned in the American River in Sacramento County Sunday.
The man was identified as Kevin Dixon, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s office. He was pronounced dead at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Dixon and two of his friends were reported missing in the area, according to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials. His friends were found safe, fire officials said.
A search helicopter found Dixon between the river’s clay banks and the San Juan Rapids and alerted rescue boat crews, according to Fire Capt. Michelle Eidam.
Dixon was found submerged under eight feet of water and was not not in a life jacket when he was found, according to Eidam.
Dixon was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, where he was pronounced dead.
