Police arrest man found sleeping in car with loaded gun in Milpitas

 

MILPITAS (BCN) — Police arrested a man early Sunday morning after an officer spotted the man sleeping inside his car with a loaded firearm next to him.

At 12:41 a.m., an officer patrolling a residential neighborhood discovered a suspicious vehicle near the 1400 block of Acadia Ave., according to police.

The officer checked the vehicle, a gray 2003 Honda Odyssey, and found a man sleeping in the car, with a loaded .38-caliber revolver on the center console next to him, police said.

Police detained the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Tracy resident Andrew Villarreal, according to police.

After further investigation, officers found Villarreal to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine and confirmed Villarreal was under the influence of a controlled substance, police said. Villarreal was also in possession of stolen property.

Villarreal is currently on probation for possession of stolen property, vehicle tampering, resisting arrest and theft, according to police.

Police booked Villarreal in the Santa Clara County Jail for being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of stolen property and for being under the influence of a controlled substance, police said.
