MARINA (KRON/BCN) — Police are looking for a Marina man who fled from police during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.
At 2:55 p.m., an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 300 block of Carmel Avenue, police said.
The vehicle’s passenger got out and ran as the officer attempted to stop the car, according to police.
The driver stayed behind with the officer, while other officers set up a perimeter around the area.
During their search, a citizen reported seeing the suspect near the intersection of Reservation Road and Crescent Avenue. According to police, officers moved the perimeter to contain the area.
Additional officers with the California State University Monterey Bay Police Department, Monterey County sheriff’s deputies and a canine from the Salinas Police Department assisted in the search, police said.
Authorities were not able to locate the suspect.
Police have identified the suspect as 19-year-old Marco Velasquez-Hernandez. He has felony warrants for his arrest on drug related charges, according to police.
