LIVERMORE (KRON) — 33-year-old Benjamin Moreno of Mountain House has been identified as the victim that was struck and killed by a big-rig Thursday evening in a hit-and-run collision east of Livermore on his motorcycle.
The California Highway Patrol said Moreno was driving his motorcycle east on Altamont Pass Road just west of Grant Line Road at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control, fell to the ground and was struck by the tires of an eastbound big-rig, which did not stop after the collision.
Moreno died of his injuries at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
CHP spokesman Officer Derek Reed said today that the cause of the collision remains under investigation and investigators believe the big-rig driver might not have realized that the truck hit Moreno.
“Sometimes big-rig drivers know when they’ve hit someone and sometimes they don’t,” Reed said.
The CHP is asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of the big-rig driver or who saw the collision to contact them at (925) 828-0466, ext. 355 or (707) 551-4100.
