BURLINGAME (KRON) — Crews have extended the closure along U.S. Highway 101 through Burlingame Monday morning.

The stretch of highway was expected to reopen at 4 a.m. but utility crews are still on the scene replacing damaged power lines, according to California Highway Patrol.

Officials shut down all lanes on Friday at about 9:30 p.m. after a Caltrans contractor working on the 101 Broadway Interchange Project struck a high voltage tower causing live high-tension PG&E electric powerlines to fall across US 101 in Burlingame.

The highway remained closed Friday night and Saturday morning, but reopened Saturday afternoon, as crews prepared for the planned Sunday night closure.

The Broadway over-crossing bridge will remain closed until noon Monday, as will the northbound and southbound off-ramps from Highway 101 to Broadway.

The closure affects Highway 101 southbound lanes from Millbrae Avenue in Millbrae to Poplar Avenue in San Mateo and northbound lanes from Anza Boulevard to Broadway in Burlingame.
