SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — Police and fire departments in Smithfield and surrounding towns have responded to an emergency situation at Bryant University.
According to Smithfield’s fire dispatch, a building that was under construction has collapsed. Police told Eyewitness News this is a very active scene and all units are responding to the incident.
An emergency call was placed around 8:15 a.m.
Rescues are also en route, as there may be multiple victims that have been injured.
A spokesperson from the university said they are trying to assess the situation and did not yet have a comment. Classes are not yet in session at Bryant University, but are scheduled to being on September 8.
