PALO ALTO (KRON) — Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly grabbed a cellphone out of a young girl’s hand in downtown Palo Alto Monday evening.
Police received a report at 6:43 p.m. of a robbery on University Avenue near Bryant Street, according to police.
Officers arrived to the area but could not locate a suspect.
Two women were talking together on University Avenue when a 16-year-old girl approached them and asked to borrow one of the women’s cellphone to call her mother, police learned after an investigation.
One of the women agreed and handed the girl her cellphone.
The girl dialed a number, placed the phone to her ear when a suspect walked up from behind the teen and took the cellphone right out of her hand, police said.
The suspect ran through the City Parking Garage “S” 445 Bryant St. The cellphone’s owner and the girl both chased the suspect on foot, but lost him as went down Florence Street, police said.
No one was injured during the incident.
The victims described the suspect as a dark-skinned male, in his mid-twenties. He was about 6 feet 1 inch tall, with a thin build and short brown hair. He was wearing a black tank top and dark-colored shorts,according to police.
