VALLEJO (KRON) — A pedestrian who died Thursday night when he was struck by a car on Interstate Highway 80 has been identified as 43-year-old Stanford Styles III, according to the Solano County coroner’s office.
The California Highway Patrol said he was a Vallejo resident, but the coroner’s office could not confirm his address.
CHP received a report around 9:10 p.m. about a multi-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the first eastbound lane of the highway near Georgia Street in Vallejo.
The driver of a white Hyundai Sonata told the CHP she was unable to stop and avoid hitting a pedestrian who walked from the center median onto the highway.
Styles was thrown into the air and landed in the center median where he was struck by the driver of a Toyota Avalon who was driving behind the Hyundai and also could not avoid hitting Styles, the CHP said.
A Chevrolet Malibu then struck the Hyundai from behind, and a BMW struck the rear of the Malibu, the CHP said. The Chevrolet driver started CPR on Styles until emergency personnel arrived, the CHP said.
Styles was taken to Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 9:52 p.m., the CHP said.
Two lanes of Georgia Street just west of the highway were closed during the investigation until 11:13 p.m.
